Fuel is not getting through carb. I replaced old parts with new carb kit basic items. Before doing so, i disassembled unit, used carb cleaner and boiled carb in water. Something is blocking fuel from getting to spark plug. Used quick start and fired up right away, so i am guessing the carb is not functioning correctly. Previously had an incorrect carb on truck. This RAKX-0 correct one came from Hershey, so it is new to the truck. 1 ton Capitol.
As always it is much appreciated and great to get help from all the enthusiasts out there. Rob Heffernan London Ont Cananda

Two things come to my mind:
- The fuel screen in the inlet fitting might be clogged - The float might not be set correctly, thus preventing gas from filling the bowl
Let us know what you find.
Cheers, Dean

If your fuel bowl is full; I would check for a plugged jet. Try to spray some carb cleaner through the main jet. Steve

i would start with the bowl off the carb and make sure that you are getting gasoline into the bowl. You should be able to raise and lower the float and observe the flow stream into the shut off when the float is raised.
If no flow, then follow the gas line back to the vacuum tank. There should be a screen at the entrance of the carb that could be clogged.

I isolated carb from vac tank and poured gas directly into vac reservoir. Taped off the vacuum inlet on intake and put in an inline filter. The old screen was removed. New gas is getting to bowl. I bent the float to the proper height as in manual. Will keep on digging..thx Dean

Will check with bowl off and raise & lower float. Idea: If i took the carb off and placed a vacuum on top of carb where it bolts to manifold, do you think it would help get dirt out or at least to see if it would suck gas through main jet. Is that a dumb idea? Will get back later today.
thx

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but you are using the choke when attempting to start?

Check the standpipe in the venturi of the carburetor. I have found these broken in a number of carbys.

I thought the choke was on, but was hooked up poorly. Now starts right away, but runs very rough . Idle is poor. Small flame out of carb back to exhaust.
Carb was unknown from Hershey. I did get a basic rebuild kit from G Wallace. Cleaned with carb cleaner and boiled to get dirt out. It is getting fuel as truck does start but stops in low rev. Ran for 10 min, but not smooth.
Sounds like a professional cleaning needed. Would like to find someone local. Live in London Ontario Can. thx to all..Rob Heffernan

The '28 RAKX-0 can be cleaned by a number of folks. There are very few that can rebuild them particularly if a cleaning does not solve the running problems. I would NOT recommend a local rebuilder that is not familiar with that carburetor. They can cause more harm than they can fix. I have had to put in parts damaged or destroyed by other rebuilders.

You are spending a lot of time while still in learning mode, and not exactly knowing what to look for. What you don't want to do is cause damage.
I would get your carby professionally rebuilt by someone like Chipper
Just my thoughts to save you a bit of heartache and frustration.

Ray
