Have a buddy who is in process of restoring a 55, 2nd series, and needs to know the correct engine color and where he can get the paint.

Also, he does not know if he has the original engine or not. A number on the block is 8886238; the serial number is 042511(or II)0F255X; another number on the block in the starboard rear area is CON3 C 265; a number on the head is 3885913, with GM 22 near that number. Would appreciate any information on year of engine manufacture.

Thanks for any help. wjb

The engine number indiactes its from a 1955-1/2 thru 1 ton truck. No way to tell if its original but would be correct. The engine was painted the same gray as used on all 1929 thru 1952 cars. Both the 6 and the 8 in the small trucks was painted that color...the paint is the common paint that is available from The Filling Station and Chevs of the '40's.
