All:

Who makes factory correct replacement glass that shows the Saf-t-Plate logo? I know there are many companies that reproduce the glass I'm just trying to find one that goes the extra mile to reproduce it as if it were original. Thanks.

I do not have an answer for you specific to your year and model. Since no one else has responded otherwise I will share my thoughts and experience. I am restoring a ”˜46 Chevy 1/2 Ton Truck. In working on the glass replacement, I discovered the door window glass was date coded. There was a month and year and maybe some other words I don’t recall off hand. I wanted to reuse that glass if at all possible, which as it turned out, it was not.
So, if other years and models back then were the same, they too may have similar info etched along the bottom of the glass not near the glass frame.
I was able to have all the old glass: doors, windshield and back used as templates for the replacement. The shop was able to closely match the tint in the old with the new.

Yep, a good example. From that you can tell when the car was assembled if several of the windows are close to a date and if any glass was replaced.

Thanks everyone! I'll most likely pull my car out of storage for a drive next weekend. When I do I'll be sure to check the dates on the glass. From my memory they are all the same date.

Now for a vendor. Does anyone here have someone they could recommend?

My experience with the ”˜46 might be of help? The guys working on the truck body suggested I find a glass shop that had someone experienced with working on old cars. After calling several places I found a place nearby. The cost was reasonable and turn around time was less than 2 days. I installed all but the back glass myself. That yet needs to be done.

Tim you can get a stick on stencil made and glass bead the info onto the glass. Look locally for someone who does glass etching on small items like champagne glasses and other commemorating gifts.
