The 1954 trucks came with a 151 degree thermostat and a 4 pound pressure cap.
The only two thermostats available today for a 1954 is a 160 and a 180 degree. If most of your driving is done in warmer weather the 160 is fine. If a 180 is used it is best to have a 50/50 anti-freeze and water mix to raise the boiling point, especially if you drive at high altitudes.

I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Wa. I will try the 180 Thermostat.
Thank you!
