Hi. My 26 over heats and I was thinking of changing to different plugs. I have checked the timing and I believe it is ok. I have read where a AC 3077 would work but they are no linger available. The 3077 subs to a AC 18. I can find theses on eBay. My question is are there other plugs people might be using?

Hi, I have a 1928 motor and initially used Champion 561 W16Y plugs for a number of years, after reading reports of improved performance using 3077 I put those in to see if they made a difference, I could find no difference whatsoever. I left the 3077's in only because I couldn't be bothered changing back

Champion 561's worked fine for me and would happily use them again if needed.

Changing spark plugs will not solve your overheating problems.

Probably timing but I have had this distributor In many different ways. The radiator has been boiled, the water pump checked, and the engine backed flushed. Got any other ideas?.

DMD you might try to torque your head bolts to 55psi. You may have a head gasket leak.I had a similar problem and even put a new honeycomb core in the radiator along with everything you have tried. The problem didn't go away until I replaced the head gasket.

Hi All,

My experience with 3077's completely the opposite, more engine response, better pulling power up hills, and the difference in the engine when changing the advance retard was significant.

Previously ran Champion WD14's which sooted up on a regular basis, which 3077's do not.

Everyone has their own story when it comes to spark plugs in Chev 4's

Regards

Ray

If you can get your hands on the original AC 'B' plugs, they work great.

I believe 3077 is an Autolite number. The AC numbers, like 78s, have not been made for many years but I have found them on ebay from time to time.

That's correct. 3077 are an Autolite plug and are also no longer available

Took the water pump off and no baffle. I know when I was a kid it was in there. Oh well. This car has been in the family over 60 years.

Good find! Without a baffle, the water pump won't pump much coolant through the system.

To see how I disassembled a '28 water pump, click on this link and scroll down the page: Resurrecting a '28 (water pump)

While you have the water pump off, it is a good time to root around with a long wire (clothes hanger) to dislodge rust and junk and flush out the block's water jacket.

Cheers, Dean
