Are you referring to how to get the rubber out of the metal cover?....Joe

On my 32 which uses the same steering wheel the horn button assy simply pries out. It is held in by the fit of the rubber. I used a plastic pry such as is used on windshield rubber.

If your car still has the original horn button or a replacement from years ago the rubber can be very stiff. When I removed the original button from my 33 coupe back in the mid 1970s the rubber was very stiff and brittle.

Others are correct, you should be able to pry it out. If you want to remove the outer chrome ring, after removing the button, then you will need to remove the steering wheel nut.

You can buy all the horn button parts from the Filling Station.

I would use a plastic window tool to pry it out.

As others have suggested the rubber has perished and hardened over the years this often acts as a glue. You may werll have to use the plastic pry all the way around to release it.

Ok, so I got it out no problems. He is my issue. If I disconnect the wire where it comes out of the bottom of the column and ground out the wire running to the horns they work but not when I press the horn button.

The wire that runs thru the horn rubber is what grounds the circuit when pressed. It makes contact thru the upper column bushing which is wired thru the column. When Chipper is back online he can explain it perhaps better as he makes the upper column replacement bushings. Possibly the wire in the column is broken or the contact wire in the button is not reaching the contact on the bushing.

Does anyone know if I drive out just the copper bushing or the entire thing? Someone also told me I had to drive it out the long way but there is a dimple below it that appears to be a stop. So I would have to drive it out from the bottom.

You will need to drive out the entire bushing with brass plate. They are molded together and will destroy the bushing if parts are removed.

A broom stick, water pipe or other relatively strong generally cylindrical object. If the original bushing it will likely be broken taking it out. The rubber hardens with age and becomes fragile. Replacements are available from several sources. They are much better than old stock or originals because they use modern materials that are superior in performance. It is best to measure the distance down the mast jacket before removing the original bushing. That way you can install the new one at the same depth. Yes there is a tab that is intended to stop the bushing at the right depth but it is not too hard to push the bushing past the tab. It does take some force to install as the bushing can not rotate once installed.
