I posted an ad here on the "cars wanted" VCCA forum, but have not had any replies, thus far.

I am in the market for a car carrier trailer, in good condition.

Want to trailer my '51 Chevy or '69 Corvair to distant VCCA events.

Bed of trailer must be 16' to 18' in length.

Electric brakes and dual axles are a must.

Please email what you may have, with description, price and pics, to:

bobg1951chevy@ellijay.com

Thanks, Bob.

Used trailers worth having cost about as much as a new trailer. Just buy a new one.

I agree with Tiny. Good used trailers are tough to find and the value of them is high. Sometimes a dealer may take one in trade from someone upgrading. I bought my 16-1/2 ft open trailer in 2000 and today it is still worth almost as much as I paid for it.

Bob, car trailers are tricky, there are so many out there and so many are junk. I know Hagerty insurance will not insure an open trailer but if hooked to the tow vehicle it's insured. I to was thinking of a closed trailer as a garage when not used but after adding options like a spare tire and carrier, tie down straps and anchor points, interior lights etc etc it would be to costly only to use once or twice a year. I'll just go on using U-Haul when needed for now.
BTW are you going to the CORSA convention in Pittsburgh next July. we are and i may be picking up my one time owned Canadian '60 "500" sedan from Pete k. email me ebittman@tampabay.rr.com Ed

Ed, I want to attend the Central Meet in Ontario next July. The CORSA Convention is one or two weeks before the Central Meet, as I recall ..... not certain if both events will be possible and probable. These two events are my immediate reason for getting into a trailer, although my plan would be to use the trailer as often as possible, God willing. I have made note of your email. Bob.

Regarding trailer insurance check with your carrier to see what is covered when towing. While it may be covered WHEN towing it's important to have coverage also when parked-especially for theft or vandalism. A separate policy for full coverage cost very little-mine is less than $20.00 a year for my open trailer valued at $2000.

Bob, another item to check out is what your emergency roadside assistance plan (if you have one) covers. I discovered just by chance that my GM Roadside Assistance plan that I had on my Sierra would cover any towing charge on the truck in an emergency, but not the trailer it was towing. Thus, in a breakdown, the trailer would be left on the side of the road until I returned with the truck, or else I had to pay for another tow vehicle to come and get the trailer. I searched around and found that Good Sam (an RV service company, with their roadside assistance package, will tow both your truck and trailer, no extra charge. Something to think about!! ( ...and I am not connected in any way with the Good Sam organization as an employee or representative).

Thanks Kaygee, that is valuable info.
Are you saying an RV is not necessary to carry the Good Sam insurance ?
Had a very nice chat with your son the other night. dance

I believe you do not have to own an RV to belong to Good Sam, but if you google their website you may find out for sure.

KG, I did send Good Sam an email, regarding insurance coverage, but have not received a reply thus far.
