Hi. I am working on a 1926 Chevy. I have a book for a 1928 which says there are suppose to be timing marks visible in a hole in the flywheel housing on the right side. There is no hole in the 1926 we have. I have removed the spark plug and cranked it until the intake valve is closed and I bring the piston up to TDC with a screw drive on top of the piston until it stops going up. Then I drop the distributor in and line up the rotor pointing on the pin for the distributor cap. I use this as the number one cylinder tower and then set the spark plug wires in the order of 1243 going clockwise rotation. I have done this a number of times but no luck. Anyone our there what to offer advice I would love to hear from you. I have gas to the carb and have been through the vacuum tank and carb.

DMD you can try to spray a little starting fluid into the carb to see if it will fire up. If not, I would disconnect a wire and hold it about an inch from the engine while someone turns the starter over. You should get a nice blue spark. You should also remove the valve cover to be sure both #1 valves are closed when you are at top dead center. Hope this helps.

Thanks I will try those ideas. I did get a new coil with external condenser. It has the condenser hooked to the positive side of the coil. To me this seems wrong and the condenser show be hooked to the negative side of the coil.

The condenser should be on the negative coil terminal or between the coil and points.
