Hello everyone-quick question but can someone please provide me with a picture of a correct bumper jack for a 48? Thinking of buying one from a seller but have found it very difficult to find a picture of one to ensure it’s correct for my car. If someone has one please post or send me picture of it. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The 1947-1948 jacks were discussed at length some time back icluding pictures. You should be able to find the rather long thread by doing a search.

Most years there are more than one supplier of jacks. Some as many as four. There are differences however small or large between the parts supplied.

That is the case for most other parts as well. GM didn't like to be without parts if some catastrophe betook a supplier plant. There are some classic examples of Chevrolet scrambling to keep production lines running when a fire or flood or strike caused an interruption in supply.

You are looking at it wrong. The shaft is 1" square except at the bottom where it fits into the 7" square base, which has a round hole. This is what 99% of the Chevy people believe a '48 Chevy came with. Check your accessories book and you will find two more that were available from the parts department in '48.

What years were jacks an option or an accessory?

Are you assed points off if your car/truck does not have a jack for those years they were an option/accessory?

Are you assessed points if you have a jack but it is incorrect for those years when it was an accessory/option?

My thinking is that if the item in question was an accessory/option there are no points off unless you have an incorrect jack on board. Then they are.

Is my last statement true? If so one must remove the jack before judging. Right?

This rule seems to need some adjustment.

Just my two cents worth.

A jack was standard equipment for all passenger cars.
If you have your car judged it must have all the tools supplied for that year on display or points will be deducted.
The number of points deducted would be the maximum listed on the judging sheet if a correct jack and tools were not displayed or a lesser number of points if the jack was dislayed and not the tools as an example.
From 1949 and up the cars came with just a jack and lug wrench and no hand tools.

Gene,

That make's sense.

I was thinking that all cars were not issued jacks as standard equipment.

I wonder where all those jacks got to. They seem hard to come by.

Thanks for responding.

Years ago when folks traded in a car they would keep the jack and tools.
