Did the 31 Phaeton have door check straps? (They keep the door from opening too far.) If they did would like to see a picture if possible.

No! The door hinges keep the doors from opening too far. That is unless it has side mount fenders. In that case there are metal door stops that install on the hinges to further limit door opening.

OK Thanks. I wondered what the metal piece was on the right door frame next to the hindge. Will have to see how it works and maybe fabricate one for the left door.

Seems the left side piece (name?) is OK but the right side is missing the metal tab at the bottom that interfaces with the door hinge to keep the door from hitting the side mount. Not very optimistic of finding a replacement.

Best option is to make one or have some made. Possible to sell some if you make more than you need. The stops are not very often seen.

can you post a picture of the part from the side that has one.

Roadsters and phaetons ONLY used the same hinge assembly from 1929--1935. There is a small tab over the hinge that swings out of the way.

That's to allow the door to be lifted off the hinges and removed from the car, without having to unscrew anything.

Mike, All the hinges have the metal tab that keeps the doors from being lifted off. The special bracket to limit door swing is added by using the top outside hinge screw. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

The tab to keep the door from being lifted was not there on the first hinges. It was added later. Don't remember which year. I know at least some '31s have it. Am thinking it was in 1930 model year production. I might be able to find it.

I was told on this site that 34-35 roadsters /PHAETONS did not have the LEATHER STRAP or a strap. Well I dug thru the 29--35 Chevrolet OPEN CAR parts book and voila, there they were.

I even found a picture of an original open car with the strap attached on the A post and the door .So I bought a pair from ebay seller AMUSCLE I think it is. He advertises them for 34-36 chevrolet trucks.

See if I can re-find that info.

found 2 sellers classychevusa and bowtie_bits

typed into ebay search " 1934 Chevrolet door check straps "

Made a replacement. Metal is a bit thinner than original but seems to work OK. There is an article in June 1931 Service News on door stops being available.
