Anyone know what the minimum/acceptable brake drum thickness should be ? Thought I'd ask while they are all removed while I wait for new linings. I assume only a shop with a drum micrometer can determine this. Thanks !

The stamped steel drums can not be turned on a brake drum lathe. They must be ground. I would rather leave them as is rather than making them any thinner than they already are.

Sound advice. Since there are no ridges, cracks, or anything, I'll leave them alone. I only asked after reading that a thin drum can lead to overheating and brake fade.

The pressed steel drums on my '34 would heat up very quickly and by the same token would cool off faster.

The other consideration is that the thin steel drums expand on heating lowering the pedal. If cut then not only heat but brake shoe pressure can expand the drums. I agree leave them alone.
