I dont think it matters which side the disconnect switch goes on but I generally disconnect the ground side first when replacing batteries. Tony

Interesting. I plan on putting the disconnect on the negative (ground) side. I have seen where the "green button" one is not snug enough for the 6 volt battery.

I have found the type that include the clamp onto the battery can be positive or negative post, you specify which when you purchase. I often fit the type that use a "key" to operate and mount it out of easy view as it also provides a small anti theft benefit. Tony

Just for Safety ! The reason I would connect the positive cable first (in a negatively-earthed car) is that while tightening the positive connector with a spanner (wrench), if I were to touch the body of the car with the spanner at the same time, nothing would happen and I would be OK. However if the negative was already connected to the battery and I shorted the positive to the body with the spanner, there would now be a short circuit with a big spark and a possible fire. For the same reason I would disconnect the negative connector first too.

Just to be safe it is best to disconnect both cables if long term storage or inactivity.

I purchased the "Green Knob" one. Easy hook up.
This one came with the jumper across the disconnect with the 15 amp fuse. No reason to use the jumper since I don't want to run the lights or anything else for that matter. It is not like I have a clock or any reason to expend power while sitting in the garage.
Why risk anything going wrong. Agree?

Having a fuse across it defeats the purpose, unless you are using it for an anti-theft immobilizer or something.
If you have a clock or whatever that draws current, It will run the battery dead just like it would if there were no disconnect.

I agree with the fuse defeating the purpose. That is why I did not use it. Kind of like taking a shower with a raincoat on.
