Does any one know where you can buy just the brake shoe lining. I have the rivets and would like to save a little money by installing them myself.

Your local clutch and brake supply house should have the lining on a roll. They sell the lining by the foot and it comes in different thicknesses.

You can also order high friction lining from McMaster-Carr. They have numerous thicknesses and widths. I have used that lining several times and it stops very well.

I understand and appreciate the improved braking with woven linings but is there a downside using a material with metal strips ? Pre-mature wearing away of the drum thickness ?
I can't imagine replacement drums are easy to find.

If it ain't broke…..fix it 'til it is.

For 1929-32 the thickness is 3/16".

It's simple: Go to McMaster-Carr's home page. You will see a lot of photo icons there. Scroll down to "Power Transmission". Click on the photo icon that says "Brake & Clutch Lining".

If you are referring to the woven lining with the embedded brass wire that would be my lining of choice.

The metal strips which are brass actually improve the life of the lining and drum. They help to wipe the drum clean and also help to transfer heat.

Back in the days of woven linings, Ford (yes, I know) offered a grinding set-up which was supposed to assure a precise and correct radius for the new linings. I see no such thing in the Chev. literature. Am I missing something?
