Hey Folks,
I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while and it's becoming a really annoying problem. Back when I re-wired the car, I replaced my ignition switch with a repro version including the bezel nut and cylinder, as my original unit had a key broken off in the cylinder, and replacement cyls did not fit my nut or housing.
Anyway, I have tried several new switches without success. I can't tighten the bezel nut enough to hold the assembly tight, so the whole deal loosens up and turns when I turn the key. Looking at the switch, there don't seem to be many threads the nut can thread onto. I've tried shimming with a washer, rubber gasket, etc.. Nothing allows me to tighten the nut sufficiently. Any thoughts out there? I'd love to buy a NOS switch assembly, but haven't seen any.
I'm about ready to chuck the whole mess and put a modern switch in there. orangeupset

If you still have the original switch take it to a locksmith and have him remove the broken key and then cut a new one.

Not an option as I no longer have the switch or cylinder.
I see there are are some NOS parts on Ebay, so will wait until I have too much green stuff burning holes in my pocket.

In the meantime, anyone out there who has one for a 51/2 gathering dust and don't need lots of moola, PM me. Would need the NOS cylinder also. I retained my orig. bezel.
Thanks

Thanks Bob.
I did solve it. Turns out I didn't have the rectangular boss on the outside of the switch lined up with the rectangular opening in the dash--hence the switch was rotating in the dash. Duhh!! bonk
Was able to cinch it up tight with the bezel collar. Still not great as there don't seem to be enough threads to really tighten it down, but the assembly is tight for now.

Thanks again! Now I gotta fish out that wrench I dropped down inside my rear quarter panel! willy
