Hi everyone I am a new member. I have bought a 261 out of 55 Chevy pickup. The intake # is. 3695409 it seems to have a smaller carb base as a 235 (5140) stamped on bottom carb won't fit. I can't find that intake cast #. The cast # for the 1955 261 is 3837012 my question is what is this manifold from.

First my information is for a US engine/truck. The small 1955 trucks like pick-ups all had a 235 engine. The large trucks, 2 ton, had a 261. The 235 and 261 used the same intake and exhaust manifolds. The carburetor stud spacing was the same for a 235 and 261, 2 15/16" center to center for studs/holes. The 216 engine had a 2 11/16" spacing.(not made in 1955) The throttle plate on a 235 was 1 1/2" and the 261 was 1/8" larger. The 216 was 1 7/16".
My first guess is the engine is a 235.

I no longer have any parts books but seem to recall that parts in the 369.... range were for the 1951-1952 era.

I agree with the above. As an example the # for a Canadian 1951 235 cylinder head was 3695450.
