My 1928 Chevrolet fire truck started overheating this weekend. It started to run hot and when I reached my destination and stopped, it released a lot of coolant. I pulled the thermostat cover to discover there wasn't a thermostat. I tightened the packing nut, and adjusted the belt. I took it for a 20 minute drive arrived home and lost most of the coolant. The water pump was replaced about 5 years ago. What do you think could be the problem? I'm not much of a mechanic so I could use your help.
Does anyone know the size of the packing for the pump? Thanks.

For a better response you should post in the 1912-1928 forum like you did with your other questions.

Good luck with your overheating problem.
