My ignition switch worked great until I reinstalled it and now it will not turn all the way to 'lock', what could cause this?

Would the switch NOT being in the lock position drain the car battery?

Thanks...

it'll drain battery in "on" mode (as well as cooking ignition points), not off and not in lock. i'd take the cylinder out of the switch housing , remove the switch and bench test it. lubricate with liquid graphite where key inserts. while you're at it, uncrimp the peened tabs and remove the bakelite plug end and clean the contacts then lubricate them with silicone dielectric greas(3M make a real reasonable silicone dielectric paste). good luck, mike BTW, Pat Kraus in the Baltimore md area is a whiz at switches and keys--has large inventory of original keys blanks. mike
