On a 32 Special, does the ground strap go behind the top bolt on the drivers side motor mount (where the 2 bolts go into the bell housing)? If not, where is the proper location?

Most people put the ground strap to either a bolt on the transmission top or motor mount bolt or starter mounting bolt. That way the ground to the starter is the lowest resistance. I don't have the diagram available but am sure Skipper will give you the exact location. Make sure that the ground strap from the drive train to the body is in place.

Thanks to all for the input. I had initially installed the engine ground strap to the top bolt of the drivers side motor mount under the head of the bolt. Got a good ground and cranked it up for about a 30 minute run, When I shut down and checked everything, the top flange (above the top bolt) had cracked off. I have since had it welded and am re-assembling it but think I'll put the strap UNDER the bolt (between the mount and the bell housing) with an internal star washer.

Can someone explain the purpose of the drive train to body ground strap ? Better ground for electrical connections ? I don't recall ever seeing such a strap on my '32. Thank you. Make sure that the ground strap from the drive train to the body is in place.

Because of the use of rubber pads under the engine and transmission there is not a good ground path from the drive train to the body. Without a good ground the dash lights and other electrical equipment will not operate properly.

Thanks Chipper. I 'll have to put one in. All my electrical components appear to be working but I see the weak link here. FS has the web style for $10.50
