Does anyone know of anyone who reproduces the rubber mats in the rear cargo area in the station wagons of the 50's?

Have you checked with some of the "usual" places.....

The Filling Station for instance: The Filling Station

Or Chevs of the 40's: Chevs of the 40\'s

Click on 'em and it'll take you to their 'home page.'

I sure hope you check around before you just put in 'carpet' like so many folks do.

Good luck!!!

The rear mat in a wagon is not rubber. It a linoleum type material. Its reproduced for Nomads ($239.00) in a vinyl but not a regular wagon. From what I undersatnd the reproduction is not too satisfactory and is full of bubbles.

Gene's response (using the word linoleum) is interesting. My '57 Turquoise Nomad had the original turquoise 'mat' and I used to point out that "my car has the original 'linoleum'." I had no idea what it really was; but it looked like linoleum to me.

They used to kinda look at me with a cocked eye....'linoleum' ????

I guess I wasn't so far off afterall!!

'E' gauge linoleum was common in the automobile industry

Just use a router with a small vee or round nose bit and a 2x4 for a guide.

MM's suggestion might look as good as the re-pop stuff that Gene suggested didn't look very good.

Actually I figure neither one would look very good!!! Too bad. I've long felt that something should be done that would look better than simply putting 'carpeting' in the 'storage area.'

Probably will look as good as the original,it just depends on your skill with the router. The original was not a jewel anyway. You can use a better grade of linoleum,or you may find a commercial vinyl floorcovering that is better. The linoleum is advertised in Hemmings as Battleship linoleum.
