I had the transmission rebuilt on my 1939 chevy and was trying to put the shift plate back on. Is there a tick on put it back in the slots?

First thing to do is make sure the rails and dogs are all in the nuetral position. When you are putting the cover near position look between the cover and main case and you should be able to see the dog line up with the furthest rail then a slight twisting of the cover will line the 2nd dog and rail.

Thank you, I was wondering if any one knew what this problem is. I placed the rebuilt transmission in, but as I'm letting off the clutch in revers it feel like the trans is getting jammed, When the clutch is completely released it moves with no problems. Only as I'm just letting it off. It never did this before the trans was rebuilt?
