I got into a conversation about the zinc levels of oil, etc., was told the 10 W 30 Shell Rotella oil labels do not adhere to the "SL" or "SM" codes on their labels.
I'm told their labels only have T1 or T2, etc.
Any insight as to why the difference in Shell Rotella codes is appreciated.

The SL, SM and latest SN ratings are for gas engine oils. Diesel oils are rated with CK-4, CJ-4, Ci-4, etc.
Latest rating for gas engine oil in the number/letter catagory is GF-5.

The GF-5 oil for gas engines has 800 PPM of zinc.
Shell Rotella in 15W-40 has 1200 PPM and not sure of the zinc content od Rotella 10W-30. Oil for gas engines and oil for diesel engines have different additive packages.
You can do a search on Shell Rotella to get more answers.
