So I had mentioned to people how it was disappointing at the last two vcca meets I was at there was no 4cyl era car and only about 8-10 6cyl era cars. After talking with a couple people we where wondering would there be enough interest in the club to do a show based on the original ( 2nd year cut off at 1948) and allow the special interest of 49-54 to show up like back in the 60's and 70's? We could do it where the meet would be more like the length of an anniversary meet that way people from where ever could join us. Please let us know if you would be interested. If your not please refrain from a negative feedback as we are just trying to see if it would be something popular or not.

Sounds interesting. Depending on the driving distance (I don't trailer) I could be a participant in a meet with these parameters.

You know that I'm all for it! Just don't put it in conflict with our Central meet in Canada in 2018. I don't want people having to pick between budgeting for a trip up here or an early car meet.
I'd love to see you do a "Return to Downington" theme. I remember that meet happening in 1981, and my family was not able to attend. My Dad was a teacher and class was in that year until June 30th. The meet started the 28th! recently I've been left a set of photo albums from that meet taken by the late Robert & Joyce Sparks. Incredible pictures... I'll start scanning and sharing them on the forum soon.

The last time I drove by the site of the Downingtown Meet, it was all surrounded by a fence and the buildings were in dire need of repair. I suppose by now it is all razzed and something else located there. I was present for the meet and still remember the storm that walked through and blew everything for the dinner meal in the swimming pool. Such memories.

Downingtown, is long gone now, I believe it is a mall of some kind.

As an alternative Thought, how do you think a reduced registration fee or free registration would work for the current meet arrangeent ? Would it entice more participation of the " founders era" ?

I personally don't think the registration fee is a deterrent for members to attend a meet. Cost to get there, room, meals, etc. far outweighs the registration cost. The major reasons I don't attend meets is don't need any more awards to stuff in boxes in the attic and sitting around for several days talking about old Chevys is not nearly as much fun as driving them and then talking about them each evening.

I agree as well... it's not the cost, but more the drivability factor for getting the older cars out. If you can plan something away from any major cities, hills, and in the cool spring or fall, you'll have a better chance of seeing the older cars.

I agree also, hotel cost is a big factor then the cost of meals I am very big on meets being my multiple choice for restaurants as where we have had the Central meet several times there are many places to eat, right off 80/90 and 75 so off major interstates and other hotels that tend to be cheaper then the host hotel they just don't have the banquet room or anything like that.
