any over the counter grease ok for the water pump, also have a small drip would changing packing material help? Do they make a sealed bearing unit for this application thanks

You will want to use water pump grease, many suppliers sell it. Have you tried tightening the packing nut? If so and it is still leaking I would try adding another packing section and see if that will stop it. If not the shaft may be pitted and it needs rebuilding.

Do the sealed bearing modification. Best thing I ever did. 7 years later works like a charm.

Is the process for upgrading a 4-cylinder water pump bearing to a sealed type documented anywhere?

I have both, my '27 an original car I used for more than 10 years with the original water pump, not sure it was ever replaced and no trouble, as long as the fan belt is adjusted correctly, not too tight, putting undue pressure on the bushes, and you oil it regularly it will last for years, I oil my pump every time I use the car. My 28 has a modified pump and has lasted very well.

I notice some of the leak is coming from the grease cup will try to repack and see if helps thanks for info, all help appreciated

If water leaks from the grease cup there definitely is not enough grease in the cup or on the shaft.
Also be sure to use water pump grease or one that is water resistant. Most grease is not water resistant. Marine grease can be.
