I met a couple of VCCA members today at an auction in Missouri. Seemed like pretty nice guys, Randy Schlaht and someone called The Junkyard Dog.

By that pic both were planning on acquiring some fresh goodies to overfill the garage.
Looking good guys.

You're right Tony, lots of items found a new home. A couple of examples are a super rare owl advertising piece that went home with Randy, and 1 of 4 known to exist banners that went home with JYD.

In that case the day out wasnt wasted. But I hope the garage door is only a temporary hanging place for the banner. The owl looks quite at home sitting on the parts box.

Just returned tonight from the absolutely fantastic 1931-32 Chevrolet collectibles and parts auction in Missouri. The entire 55 year collection of 1931-32 was sold out to the bare walls in the two-day sale. The auction of 1931-32 memorabilia, literature, collectibles, Chevrolet cabinets, Chevrolet clocks, and parts was probably the biggest of its type in history. Tons of high-end 1932 items, like the 1932 Chevrolet banner featured above, were sold in the auction.

The 1930 owl featured in the auction at one time was in my collection but since I had two of the owls, one was traded off years ago and went to the Missouri collection in trade for a one-of-a-kind, super rare, 1930 Chevrolet banner which is the only one known to exist.

By the way, the photo of the 1932 banner hanging on the inside of the garage door was taken prior to the auction that was held on Memorial Day weekend.

The old Junkyard Dog shipped home six huge boxes of rare 1932 Chevrolet collectibles, literature and clocks that were purchased at the auction. One of the items was a super duper rare 1932 item that was known as "The Book" throughout the auction. This "book" can be compared to the sacred scrolls in rarity.

The auction was advertised in the G&D for two months prior to the sale, but only 8 VCCA members showed up.......the rest of the bidders were car dudes from the local area. Many of which did not know what they were looking at when it came to many of the collectibles. The attendance was way down, which made the bidding prices a lot lower as well.

Man, what a great sale that was and there will never, ever be another 1931-32 sale like this one!

With low attendance and not many of them knowing the details made it easy for those that did know, but 6 boxes of goodies you hope Mrs JYD doesnt mind. Knowing some of the history of the owl is interesting and can understand you letting it go.

I figure a new annex to the JYD Museum is in the planning stages. Glad to hear you were able to add to the fantastic collection.

Elvira probably likes it, too.

All the Best, Chip

Mrs. Junkyard Dog was right there with me with a large tablet writing down everything that I purchased at the sale. I think that she finally ran out of pages on the tablet!

The "Junkyard Dog Museum" is already full and there is stuff waiting in the wings to be displayed in the museum....and that was BEFORE we went to the big sale in Missouri.

If Mikey likes the Chevrolet owls, then Mikey needs to save his money since these things sell for BIG bucks.

Whats the definition of big bucks for the owl? Very curious. Amazing that only 8 vcca members were there. Not a good sign Id say for the long term value of our cherished goodies. Wish I saw that ad.....may have been 9 there.....

The ad ran in the classified section of the G&D for two months prior to the auction and the ad covered one third of a page. It was very visible.

Yup.....guess it pays to still read the paper based too instead of the Chat Forum only.....any info on what "the owl" sold for?

Okay I will bite ( LMAO ) what would it take to buy that Chevrolet sign with the Owl. ????????

Too some = many, $20 would be a ridiculous amount of money for the sign, to the AMERICAN PICKERS TV stars probably $250 if has a significant amount of rust and chips.

Too me lay a price on it, and lets see.

Crazy is one thing, stupid is a different subject, when it comes to money.

throwing it at the wall, lets see if it sticks ?

There is another large auction advertised in the G&D that starts June 10. It will be held for 4 days over two weekends. The owner told me (through email) that he underestimated the number of items and the auctioneer said he needed 4 more days, so there will be another auction later in the year. He said he also has a lot of 31-32 items to sell in his first auction. His 33-48 parts will have to wait until the 2nd auction.

As far as what the owl sold for, that's something the new owner may not want to share on the chat site.

asking if the OWL sign is for sale and what price it would be.

Not interested in what somebody paid for one.

A 1930 Chevrolet owl display, like the one in the auction last Memorial Day Weekend, sold for $8,000 at auction about 6 or 7 years ago. This owl did not bring that amount but it definiely had the potential to do so. However, the owl still sold for big bucks, which was probably less than it was actually worth, and the owl went to a great home and the new owner, who is a collector, was extremely delighted to be the high bidder. I don't blame him either because it will be a fantastic asset to his collection.

WELL, $8000 is nothing to sneeze at, depending on ones financial situation.?????

But watching AMERICAN PICKERS and also CANADIAN PICKERS TV shows, there are people out there to which money is no object.

Just watch the crowd on TV at the Barrett Jackson auctions, $8000 might be considered chump change .

Great sign and a lot of people would like to own one like it

$8000 for a sign or $8000 into a great car to drive and enjoy? Should be easy.

It all depends upon if you are a car collector or strictly a Chevrolet memorabilia collector or a Chevrolet sign collector.
