I'm working on a Canadian made 29 Chevy Landau and the Car number plate is missing. If anyone can help me with the Oshawa plant number it would help me narrow down the number. I have found some info on the interwebs that indicates the number should be something like "??AC01030" The question marks would be the plant number, AC is the series, production number, starting at 01000, the actual number of the car rolling of the line hopefully being the #30. Any help with this would be awesome. Thanks

Welcome aboard. I'm pretty sure Canada didn't follow that number system. Anything on the firewall? It's there in 1933 & 1934 Canada for sure....Joe

Canadian cars use a different numbering system than the US cars.
there should be a brass plaque on the passengers side sill held on with 2 nails. On the plaque it should say " General Motors of Canada limited Oshawa Walkerville Regina " Stamped on the plate for 1929... Model (International), Serial no.( mine has 6 numbers ) Engine no.
If you look closely at the wood sill on the passenger side you may find the Serial no. stamped in the wood.
Hope that helps.

If the plate from the sill is missing it is impossible to determine the original assigned serial number. Cars were numbered as they came off the line. Bodies were also numbered but not in correlation to the serial number. Approximate assembly date can be determined from casting dates on the engine block, cylinder head and transmission case. These were typically cast 1 to 2 months before use. Again only an approximate date can be assumed and if the engine has been replaced the casting dates can be off. The engine block has a stamped number as well but it is not related to serial number either.

Thanks everyone for the info. I found this car in a barn, literally. It had been taken completely apart by the brother of the gentleman I got it from. The brother passed away before being able to complete the restoration. I've been 7 months figuring out the wood framework and putting it all back together. Running and driving now, but no license plate or insurance without a serial number. All the wood that I got with it was pretty well rotted away but the metal is in amazing shape. No tags from the passenger side floor or seat. The firewall has the Fisher number 8860 and body number 719. I will probably call our Government licensing people and just find out what they need to register an antique, without having to jump through the typical government hoops and inspections. One way or the other, I will have it on the road this summer. Love the old Chevy's and very proud of this one. Thanks again to all of you. Keep up the incredible work.

Hello, typically the engine number can be used to register the car as it is permanent stamped onto the block. You may need affidavits from surviving relatives to prove no claims to title. Best of luck.

Thanks, cabboy. That should work. I will run with that. Really appreciate the advice.
