Hi
Has anyone any suggestions about what I can do to improve a RHD steering box. There is a lot of play at the steering wheel, but there is nothing in the FS catalogue about rebuild kits etc.

Greetings from Canada. You need to see if the worm and sector gears are good or not. If good then bearing, bushings and adjustment. If not good gears will need to be found. There are bronze bushings in the housing that are prone to wear and should be checked.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Are the bearings and bushings regular engineering items, I.e. Available generally?

Hi Peter --

Yes, they are available, but a bit hard to find. The best place to look is on ebay. You can also take the old ones to an engineering jobber or wholesale bearing supplier in the UK and get them to match them by dimension.

I have rebuilt a number of these steering gearboxes over the years. Not that difficult. The relevant repair manual and service news (both available from www.fillingstation.com and others) have a number of articles on how to set up the adjustment.

If you'll cover my airfare and a few nights lodging, I'll come help you do it! carbana

All the Best,

Chip
