In a February posting, Old216 told us about Canadian production 1938 Master 85 had 4.22 differential gears only.
Can someone tell me if the 1940 Master 85 had any other gear sets from the factory?

If it's a Canadian car, the best way to find out is to check the service manual or a parts manual a few years newer than your car year.
Canadian Service manuals are quite good and cover these details based on model number. The only drawback is they are single year specific so you need to find someone with that year Canadian manual or try to find yourself one.

Just a little correction about the 1938 Canadian Chevrolet Masters, the Master and the Master Deluxe both had the 4.22 ratio rearends.
In my Canadian Passenger Parts book, for pinion and ring gear assembly 5.529. 1940 to 42/All 39-7 teeth hypoid part no 3652661. However I think you have multiple choices. There is an NOS 41-11 1940 to 1954? on Ebay right now and also multiple 1940 to 1953 3.55 sets.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

I would be willing to bet the Master 85 had the 3.73 gears just like the US cars. If you get the differential ID numbrs stamped into the rear center housing, facing the front on the right side in line with the axle tube I should be able to decode it for you. The numbers/letters are in the 9:00 position between the carrier studs/nuts.

The cars with a 4.11 ratio have a 15 3/4" fan blade. Cars with the 3.73 have a 16 1/4" fan blade. Also the blades are wider and the fan makes more noise if you wind it up in the gears.

My understanding is Canadian Service Manuals are rare and can be more expensive to obtain than the differential gear set I am looking for.
I have a source for drive line parts from a Canadian production car and before I spend time/money following up on this source, I wanted to know if the effort had any chance for success.

I see the listings on Ebay (thank you for the tip). I will watch and do a little more digging around.

As always, thank you Chev Nut.
The fellow has the engine for sale along with front/rear axles, torque tube. He is 2 1/2 hours away. If I can connect, I will measure the fan blades and look for the ID numbers at the 9:00 position.

The above is tue for all 1937-1949 cars equipped with a 3.73 ratio. It was an option on 1941-1949 cars an standard on 1937-1940 straight front axle cars. The radiator core also had closer spaced fins for better cooling. The engine actually works harder with the 3.73 ratio on hills, etc.
