Hi guys, I noticed I was leaking out of my water pump so I'm going to change it. My question is, should I goop up the gasket or put it on dry and is there more then one gasket? Thanks Bob

Hi Bob, Try doing a Search of past posts for a quick answer +water +pump will lead you to a number of answers narrow the search by choosing a specific Forum to search, for example 1937-41. Try also the Advanced Search Tips. Installation of Water Pump on a 40 Coupe 41 216 Water Pump Replacement Good luck, Mike P.S. I think you will find that some will recommend you do not need to use a sealant with a new gasket. This advice is fine unless the new pump leaks and you need to take it off again to replace the gasket and put some sealant on. I think the job is such a bother that you should use sealant with your new gasket. I wrote my post as chevy37 was responding so agree with his response.

The factory never used a sealer and I have never seen a factory installed pump leak due to the gasket failure. Just make sure the surfaces are clean.
