Do a Yahoo search on "Steering Wheel Restoration" to see if you want to do the work yourself. I got background information from Steering Wheel Bob's web site. Check out the heading "Process and Pricing." It recommends Acrylic Enamel paint. I did all the repairs myself and had my body shop paint my steering wheel when they painted my dash (same color). You will need to research what is the correct color for your steering wheel as not all wheels may be painted their dash color.

Depending on the paint hardness you still may not want to wear rings or a watch when you drive. I find it is hard to predict my grip when driving and shifting my car.

Good luck, Mike
P.S. I restored 2 steering wheels for my 41 Master Deluxe. I did a Master Deluxe wheel and a Special Deluxe wheel. They both turned out real nice.

Note that he is refering to a banjo steering wheel. Originally it was not painted and is made out of a moulded material. I have never heard of any one painting one.

I am close to painting the banjo wheel for my 47. I took my wheel in and tried to match paint to the original color, just trying to get close. Will see how it turns out, should get it painted after we get home from the Southern Spring Tour.

Are we talking about the actual wheel or just the metal hub? If the hub, I believe it is a light tan similar to the speedometer & clock outer ring.

I am going to paint the wheel, I have the cracks fixed and primed and needs final sand. I will paint the hub with the same paint I used on the speedo and clock trim rings. This is my first car that bought when I was 15, in 1968. I not going to ever sell it and I don't care about having it judged so i just want it to be a close match.

I can look at the code but won't be home till next weekend. If you want to wait till I paint it I could sent a picture of the painted one next to an original one that I also have.

i'm confused. This started out as a question regarding painting a 42-48 banjo steering wheel. now it seems to be about a 41 steering wheel of some type. There were three in the car line-up.

Question: What in the world are we really talking about here? It seems that the ship is off course.
