I just restored a '25 Chevrolet 1/2 ton Pickup. Does anyone know if Chevrolet made different rear axle gear ratios for their cars and trucks? Also, were there any aftermarket items made for Chevrolet to increase the speed of the vehicle? Thanks for your help.

Further down the forum there is a Speedster section. They have a newsletter which I was able to print. The January 2016 has some detail on what Fred Upshaw did to a 25 roadster to upgrade. Some of the items; 28 engine with domed pistons, 3 port cylinder head, Carter carb, Johnson overdrive, 28 rear brakes and 29 wire wheels. Very neat job on the roadster featured. I suspect the overdrive and head will be difficult and expensive to find but who knows.

Need to add the newsletters are in the members technical area on the main home page. This one shows as Feb. If you have trouble pm me your mailing address and I will mail you a copy.

Thanks Dave. I wasn't really looking to upgrade it to that extent. Not yet anyway. I planned to keep it original at this time. I was just looking to get a little more speed out of it. 35mph is a bit slow. It has the power but not the gearing. I was wondering if a Ruxtell 2 speed rear can be adapted.

I can not comment on the possible two speed rear conversion. I have seen several Johnson overdrives installed in stock Chevy fours and they make a significant difference.
