I'm installing a 605 power steering unit on my 56 Chevy. Instructions not so good but figured out how to bolt on the unit to the frame with the bracket that was supplied. Big problem!!! The shaft that the pitman arms hooks up to seems to be about 3 inches short. If I go ahead anf hook it up, left is the only way I can turn. The bar the pitman arm attaches to hits the frame when trying to turn to the right. Any special parts to make it work?
Help!!! Mule

Gray Headed Mule, I saw a forum on this a while ago, to find the author go to Classicar chat or forums and the Chevrolet page of either and post your query, one of the moderators (Mikeky) has just done this mod to a 55 Belair.

Hi Gray,
Since VCCA addresses original restorations why not visit the Chevytalk.com?
I know you are a member there and this question will easily be addressed.
The last 605 box I saw for a trifive had an extention on it to prevent the exact problem you are having.....

Thanks for the info guys. I think I got the shaft on my unit. After asking on other boards it seems the guy didn't do the alteration required for a 56 Chevy. Oh well! Life goes on!!
Thanks Da Mule

GHM The bad news: maybe you didn't get the shaft you needed ? Hang in there surely there is better solution than just all ways turning to the Left.... YUCK!!!
But the good news is: (remember three lefts make a right), Left turn, Left turn, Left turn, and you are headed to the RIGHT!!!
Hey Cheep Sweat! did you lose you bugle? I found one that looked lack it had been thrown from a Depot Hack over by Comanche, on highway 16!I may sign up for buglein' lessons over at the Cut & Shoot Scout Camp.

Oh yes I did!! I got the "shaft" alright! Lots of help from this forum though! Probably be back with more questions. Just now finished all the body work and I'm trying to put everything back together again. I mean that baby was stripped to the gazu!!! If it came apart it is!!! Anyway thanks for the help.

Mackie, No the bugle arrived home safely. Was on Hwy 36 heading back home but not 16. Maybe you can get some lessons from the scouts and we can play a duet?

Shucks!...I thought I had a real find, probably just a disheartened wanta-be bugler without any talent or patience. Chipper, I already started a do-it your-self basic course, every now and then I get a sound like a elephant with broncititus-gastitius!....Do you think I am doing good sofar?
