My car is a 1933 Master 5 Window Coupe. In the far lower right corner of my center console of the dash there is a switch that pulls out like the headlights switch. My owners manual says it's an accessory switch. I don't know of any accessories in my car. Anyone know what this is for?
The video shows it.

It is for an accessory if you install one. No eletrical accessory then not used.

switch does not match the other black knobs, so its from a later 34-35 .

You need to look under the dash with flash light and see exactly what's there, on the other side. Would have taken less time than getting the camera and making a video of your dash panel .

It could be used as a fog light/driving light switch , if it has a fused part on the back .

The dash center panel on the 33 master video is exactly what I was posting about how to repair. Wonder if its original or repainted repaired ??????????

Mike, I can't tell you if the dash panel is original or not. I just bought this car a couple of months ago, and I bought it from a classic car dealer so I don't know who owned it before that to ask.
Thanks for the information. I will look at it closer and try to determine what it might go to.

Look behind the instrument panel like Mike suggests. If there are wires going to the switch, then follow the wires to see what they are connected to and then you will know what the switch is for.

If the car is equipped with the accessory heater, that is where the switch is located.

Thanks Ray. But there is no heater in my car. At least not anymore. Who knows if there was one in the past.

Look for empty holes in the firewall on the passenger side to see if there was a heater installed in the past.

I don't know the routing of the '29 manifold heater but the '28 has the register in the passenger floor not the metal firewall. I suspect '29 is the same if it was necessary to cut the hole in the engine splash pan.

Also note that the exhaust manifold on a '29 is on the driver's side while the '28 exhaust manifold is on the passenger side. 1929 driver's side has pedals and battery under passenger floor. That would mean the duct would have to go under the engine/transmission to get to the passenger floor. If it exited at the fire wall it had to go up to a register. Awful long run to cool the duct on the way to the passenger compartment. Battery on '28 us under driver's floor so duct has straight path to the toe board.

On the other hand if a '30 or later hot water heater then it was bolted to the passenger firewall. The hoses also went through the firewall.

Chippy: Your above post has some bearing on the discussion going on in the 1929-32 forum regarding the hole cut in the engine undepan, so I quoted your post in that location and added a reply as well. Here is the link to the ongoing discussion in the 1929-32 forum:

And the answers above are confirmed as follows:

1. On the 33 Master there is a MATCHING dash knob in this location labeled ACCESSORIES. This factory standard knob is not connected to anything behind the dash and is simply held on with a nut and washer to its integral threaded shaft

2. The switch/button on the dash shown is NOT original which means at some point in this cars life some electrical accessory was added, and maybe removed

3. Heater switches were generally added on the bottom lip of the dashes

Hope this helps

Sorry guys. My wife had a stroke and has been in the hospital. She had surgery and is doing well now. But that did cause me to lose focus on what I had posted. I haven't even looked at that switch since I posted the question. I will check it out tomorrow and get back with you. Everyone in this chat forum has been great. You've given me information that I would have had to search long and hard to find elsewhere. And maybe would not have even found it elsewhere.

Sorry to hear of your wifes health issues but glad she is on the mend. There are some things much more important than cars and family is number one.

I looked at this switch under the dash today. Can't see much except that it is wired with newer plastic coated wire. Can't see where it leads as it goes under the insulation into the side of the cab. I'm not going to tear into it at this time (if it isn't broken don't fix it?). Anyway, thanks for the well wishes for my wife. She is getting better.
