I was quite happy to receive my Inner-Line filter assembly that I purchased on Ebay. It is in excellent condition and ready to be installed. Unfortunately it will not fit on my 1940 engine as the exhaust manifold is in the way. I thought these were made for 1940 up to the end of the 216 but apparently not. I mention this as a red flag for others.

The will work only n a 1949 and up as that was the year the exhaust manifold/exhaust pipe was angled back rather than going straight down.
It will fit but not well on a 1952-53 (passenger cars) due to the side motor mount bracket being in the way.

Yes, that is unfortunate. I have a copy of one of their original advertisements and it says "for all Chevrolet models from 1940 on, new cars and trucks". I wonder if they made different models.

When I started in the parts department in 1950 the Inner liners were new. That was the only filter we used in 1950 and 1951, They became a pain to install in 1952 so we changed to a Wix filter which was the same as an AC.
I don't recall of ever seeing more than one model.

I bought 2 types of innerline filters trying to use on my motor with the Fenton split manifold for my 216. Couldn't make either of the 2 work so I used witch ever of my exhaust manifolds that I could get to work for my 41. I had to build the exhaust system any way so that made it more easier. Bot either way I was determined to use one of them cause I like the look of it.

Very nice looking motor there! So this is really interesting. I have the one in the top photo. I saw one on Ebay the other day that was different again in that the top was a heavy casting with the Inner Line name prominently displayed. So now I am wonder if the ones without the names, like mine, were some kind of clone.

The one with the long neck was designed to get past the side motor mount bracket on a 1952 (also '53 stick)
They also made one with a taller cover and it used a taller element.
No matter what they tried by 1953 they were dead and could not be used on Power Glide engines or any 1954.
