I recently abrasive blasted and painted my car, and two new holes popped out on the drivers door that were obviously for a mirror. I only had the clamp style and it was in pretty rough shape. Has anyone ever had a mirror that mounted through holes in the door? I thought that came in later models.....

Sounds like someone installed a later aftermarket bolt on mirror at sometime in the past.

I had a bolt through on my '51 that I had gotten out of a wrecking yard. It was on a Buick or Olds door...but could not tell you if that was an option for either of those cars. I since welded those holes up and have gone with the peep mirror.

I think Filling Station and COTF sell a bolt on mirror with two screws.

My 51 car had the same holes in the driver door just below belt molding (7/8"). The Chevy Accessories Manual shows this also.

Chevrolet only offered a clamp on mirror and a Peep mirror in 1951 and 1952 but there were several after market bolt on mirrors available.

To add to Gene's comments, look in the 1951 Accessory book.

The same clamp-on mirror was sold from 1949-1954. For some reason they are very difficult to find today. I am lucky to have one on my 1950 that was installed by the dealer when the car was new. It gives perfect rear vision if located where the factory specifies.
For mounting on the right side there is a screw that can be loosened and arm swiveled bon base to make it work correctly.
The dealership where I was employed insalled mainly an after markket bolt to the door mirror....they were made here in the Milwaukee area.
