1947 Chevy car with original 216 and 3 spd. non-overdrive transmission is rough when driving over 45-50 mph. Any idea on potential causes?

Tire balance would be the first thing I would check.

Along with tire balance old tires could be out-of-round.
A general vibration could be the U joint or torque tube drive shaft bushings.

For better coverage on Chevy Chatter concerning your questions, you might want to post in the 1946-48 forum.
