On the '33 coupe I recently acquired, someone had forced the trunk handle, breaking the handle and jamming the mechanism. I see that The Filling Station sells the mech, but I still have to replace the handle. I would like obtain one locking, but if I can't can I transfer over the lock unit? I found a "pin" in the cylinder that I removed but I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm sure someone has done this and I could use some guidance. Thanks,

They turn up on ebay USA from time to time, usually without keys, but there is a code stamped into the handle shaft , that a locksmith can decipher if they have the book, telling them the profile to cut for the cylinder. You will also need a specific number Briggs & Stratton key that can be had on ebay . I think www.iandireproduction.com has produced them, but maybe sold out now. ??? mike

I was not familiar with that vendor. I ordered a catalog after seeing their website. They show the mech as well as the handle itself. Apparently the repro items don't have the "flip" cover for the keyway. Thanks for the lead.

[quote=mike_lynch]Neither my roadster or my coupe have trunk lid handles...have any kind of FLIP COVER , they are originals. Do not think I have ever seen a flip cover on a handle of that era, I do have a gas tank cap locking that has a FLIP COVER . 33-36 Do not have that feature. mike

Perhaps my nomenclature is wrong. What I was referring to is the cover that rotates to cover the key slot. ??

YUP, bad nomenclature , if they rotate to cover the key opening, news to me because the original I have in my hand cannot do it , has a key slot and that's it, the way they are supposed to be. Gas tank locking caps, I have one on the car that covers the key hole and swivels. mike

Can someone post a picture of the "keyway cover" or " flip cover" for that early of a handle?

My 33 Master Coupe has a "Flip Cover" on the Trunk Handle but I do not know if it is original. My 34 Master does not. By the way, does anyone need a Deck Lid for a 33-34 Master?

The 30-32 trunk or rumble seat handles have a key slot cover that has a spring to move the cover back when a key is removed. Not 100% sure when the cover started or ended.

I have two photos of the trunk handle on my 33 Master 5 Window. How do you attach them on this website? The process seems to be different then any of the 4 other forums I use.
I have owned this car for 46 years and I am sure it has the original trunk handle.

My 1933 Eagle Coupe has the '32 style trunk handle and I believe this is one of the features of the early production coupes and was later changed on the Master models. I have owned the car for 54 years and believe it is the original handle. oh oh, I smell a lots of posts coming about whats right in trunk lid handles and open car handles. Let the pictures be shown. Experts 1932 , 1933, 1934, 1935 form a line to the left. I once had a 34-35 std expert tell me the trunk lid handle in my coupe was wrong and the roadster one was wrong too. mike

The rumble lid handle for my 1930 Sport Coupe has the "flippy" cover over the keyway as it should for 1930. As Chipper mentioned, the "flippy" cover on the trunk lid handle and the rumble seat handle was used on the 1930-32 models. Also, the Chevrolet parts book shows that the handle with the "flippy" cover is the same for 1932 and 1933 with the same part number for both years.

well I guess most of us in the 33--36 section are not familiar with a FLIP COVER. I HAVE 34-35 handles without any kind of cover , flip or otherwise. So now all the readers of this section of the forum are overly informed on the particulars & peculiarities of the 32 -33 trunk lid handle . mike

Back to my original question, Is there a way to remove the entire lock cylinder or is a total loss? Thanks,

A good locksmith should be able to remove the cylinder.

The bar needs to be retracted from the lock mechanism. Don't have a '33 so not 100% sure the lock cylinder can be rotated in the handle with the pin removed. If so try to rotate the lock cylinder 1/4 turn. If not clockwise then counterclockwise.
