My serial number on my 39 chev business coupe is 9ja0316891 can someone fill in the blanks?
9- assembly plant where was it?
J.A.-Master Deluxe.
03-is the month
16891-is the production number.


And also-paint number is 246- color?
trim-83--?

9=Norwood, Ohio
246=Ridge Green (A fairly dark green)
83=the common tan short nap mohair
03=March

Thank you Chevgene,that was quick.The car is black now,I have pictures of before it was painted black and it was dark green,a plausibility that it was the original paint.

Was that the 15890th one built?

Merely courious as to whether i got it right by subtractin 1001 from the serial number.

Yes, you would need to subtract 1001 units. That 15,890 would have been the 15,890th Chevrolet built at that Norwood plant.

Actually you only subtract 1000 from the number. The starting number was 1001 instead of 1. So the 15890th build would have the serial number 16890. The unit with 15890 serial number would have been the 14890th built. Confused on a higher level now?

No Gene you made a mistake that many of us (me included) have made in the past. Unless a person stops to think it seams that subtracting 1001 is the right answer.

i think that Gene knew better. He may have merely going along with my poor math. While i should have realized the the first one would have been 1001, i jumped right in and subtracted the first one from the total.

Gene, knows better and I do too! This error should reflect solely on me. Gene, on the other hacd, should get a pass.
