Mine is rusty but serviceable, needing new material after sanding and
a little lube. The spring in the tube is good but I'm not sure there
is a ratchet or catch to stop its re-wind after being pulled down.
Is that how it's supposed to work, like the old wooden roller shade?
Thanks for any help.

They work just like Grammas old shade..No cloth required to test it..Wind the rachet end to tighten, then tap the end..if it releases you
're good to go

Thanks Blue 38.Mine is working OK after clean-up and new cloth.
The origional had been black but was mostly sun-bleached.It's
fun when stuff comes together.

My '28 window shade is a metal tube with a fixed pin on one end and an identical pin that spins freely on the other end. It's very rusty. If there is a spring inside, then it must be detached or broken. It appears that I will have to take it apart and try to replace the spring. Is that the only option available, short of replacing with a modern version or not installing at all....
