doubt it......get a new one.

But, use a lite probe to see if there is electrical continuity when brake pedal is pushed, before you start buying new parts.

Check the fuse for tail lights. Check the tail light bulb to see if burned out or not ? I got one that keeps losing contact with the bulb holder. Take it out and put back in and works..........not the best solution. I changed the bulb and seems to be working continuously.

I have not seen where to buy a new one. The bulb is good. Also current flows thru when ignition switch is on. Brake applied, no current thru switch. Also buy parts book it looks like 35 standard is different than 34-35 master?

Took the switch off and cleaned it up, outside only. Tested it, it worked and put back on car. Brake light now works. Problem solved. Now to the 35 Master.

Most of this stuff isn't rocket science. Mostly they get dirty & don't make contact. Good job Jon...Joe

Good job! Brake light switches are usually repairable. Most times all the brake light switch needs is a good cleaning and it will work just fine as you have found out. Cleaning or repair is a good option since finding a new switch can sometimes turn into a major project due to a lack of availability.

Jon,
I have a new 1934-1935 Master switch if yours can't be repaired.

Ok I know this old thread but wanted to ask a newbe question. So from what I am reading the 1935 standard does have a brake light??? because mine only seems to have a tail light. Were brake lights an option???

a 1935 Chevrolet has a left side tail light has a brake light assembly in the tail light at the bottom and has a running light on top.

Optional was a right side passenger tail light with upper running light and lower brake light exactly the same as the left, except it does not have the LICENSE PLATE glass or bulb projecting thru.

The 35-36 master series looks the same but the tail light metal pot housing is different.

you can find these REPO on ebay or the filling station or I & I reproductions.

There will be two bulbs in the tail light, the slightly larger lower bulb is for the brake light.

If the 35 is the same as 36 and 37 the switch is fitted into the outlet of the master cylinder and is hydraulically operated.

Steve, from under your car, look up to the area where the brake pedal is mounted to the frame. The switch is also mounted on the frame, and it will have a small actuating rod connected to the brake pedal. Of course you can also identify it by the attached electric wires.

Not the same as '36 and '37. These switches can still be bought from vendors. Look on driver side frame under car. Location: under the driver's door but on the inside frame.
