The brake shoe leans slighty outward at the top. Seems to not bother when the drum is on..Is this correct? Thanks

Hello, It may drag too much, and heat up the drum prematurely. The stamped early Chevy drums are kinda thin and fade quickly as they heat up upon application. Been awhile since I looked at my 29 to remember how they are held in place.

If the brake shoe lower pivot pin is worn, the 2 holes in the brake shoe are worn or the pivot pin holes in the backing plate are worn, then the brake shoe retracting spring will pull the 2 brake shoes inwards away from the backing plate, and give you the problem you have now.
The only way to cure the problem is to ream all the holes on the brake shoe/s causing the problem and get a new pin machined up to whatever the holes just clean up to after reaming.
