I have purchased a 1957 235 to replace the original 216 in my 1937 Chevy pickup. I have two questions: 1) will the bell housing from the 216 fit the 235? 2) the 57 235 has side front motor mounts and the 216 has the one in the front under the timing cover. I have read that I can drill holes in the 235 to accommodate the front engine mount. Is this the way I should go or is there another option. Thanks for your input

Hey DOC,

Here's an article that I think you'll find interesting:

The 216 bell housing will bolt right up to the 235. One of our VCCA members has an excellent blog on these motors and the changes through the years. Here is a link to it. Chevy Six Blog If you go down to his 235 Presentation, you will find some advice for dealing with the change of the throttle pivot point on some of these motors.
