I know this topic had been discussed before but what should the gap be for R-45 Spark Plugs for a 35 Chevy? I know the specs. say .035 but it seems like someone said that at .040 they have more power. Is this correct?

I always used the .035" for my '34 and it had good speed and power. To be honest if there was difference it would be hard to notice.....also from use the gap gets wider and I would stay with the .035' and the suggested gap was actually .032".

I doubt that a wider spark plug gap would make much difference in the '34 and newer engines. Those have spark plugs at an angle directly into the combustion chamber. The early six cylinders have a rectangular pocket the spark plug screws into. It is more difficult to get a high enough gas/air concentration to ignite quickly. So the hotter spark from a wider gap helps ignite the leaner mixture.

Chipper thank you for that explanation of why a .40 gap should be used on early Chevrolets. I did not know that is why you needed it.
