Are the #333144 connecting rods correct for the '24 engine? I hope so because I have 13 of them. Thanks

According to my copy of the Master Parts Price List, dated 2/1/1928, 333144 is a .003 thick connecting rod shim that fits most, if not all, the Chevy 4-cylinder engines.
Is 333144 a typo?

Definitely not a shim. All 13 of these are marked with this same number. The symbols and numbers that follow 333144 are different on each but they all have 333144 on them like this one. ![[Linked Image from i1383.photobucket.com]](http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah316/mylsnh/IMG_2729_zpsf96sagn3.jpg)

That is the casting/forging number. They are probably part #333150 which fits Models G, 490, Superior, and U according to the 4 Cyl. parts bok.

How would I know for sure if not by this casting number?

Mike you may be looking at a casting number. My parts book dated 2/1/1924 lists the connecting rod P/N as #41164. My '28 parts book doesn't list 333144 as a part number. 333114 is a .003 shim. That doesn't mean the part number had not changed over the years; because earlier FA-2, Fa-5, sedans,'23 'T' trucks as well as '25 and later engines have different connecting rod part numbers.

The connecting rods on my 1922 and a couple of other 490-motors that I have seen all have casting number 333144. In the parts list from 1924 that Steve mentions, under the headline "Connecting rod", you can read "(Four-Ninety and Superior)". The parts list also lists "Connecting Rod Bearings", Upper and Lower. According to Clymer's "Early Chevrolet History" the 1922 model was the last with insert bearings (is that the correct term?). From 1923 Superior the rods had poured bearings, a couple of years later the insert bearings disappeared from the parts list (for example the Master Parts Price List 1928).
In my 1922 I had to make a motor overhaul nine years ago as one of the rod bearings had scored and cracked. All rod bearings were poured, the motor had been overhauled once earlier. I replaced two of the rods with two good used rods with insert bearings. Since then I have done more than 12 000 kilometers (7 200 miles), the motor running nice.
