Hi All, Just picked up a 1941 Chevy and found the car has a serial number that matches the Ohio title but not the description of what is should be. The plate is on the right A pillar and says serial number but it only has numbers in it (11115474). The plate looks very old and has been there a long time. The hood trim says Special Deluxe. Can anyone tell me what this serial number is and why it is different from what I find on line that is supposed to be for this vehicle?

 The serial number on a 1941 is under the floor mat, passenger side, next to the door opening.

Thanks for the info but I already looked there and there is no plate there, I do not know how to ad a picture of the serial number plate that is on the A Pillar for anyone to look at. My thoughts are sometime before the early 50s when 14 digit VIN numbers were issued some state gave it this number and that is why it says serial number and the title matches this number.

I agree.
Prior to 1955 most states used the engine number for registration. The 1941 engine numbers ranged from AA-1001 through 1163729 or AC-1001-195459.
