Some Carter W1's have a number stamped on the bottom of the mounting flange that mates with the gasket.
In the Carter documentation this number matches up to the model # of the carb.
About 2/3's of the random W1's I have show this number stamped but the others have nothing...

1937 Chevy carbs are easy to identify. The have a horizontal tab on the dog leg throttle arm. The tab has a hole for the throttle cable. The arm still has the hole for the throttle rod. In addition the choke arm is flat and choke plate in two pieces. The '38 is similar but has a single choke plate.
I have several if you can't find one. Dean Echols can rebuild it for you.

Thanks everyone for the info on the w-1 carb, I now know that a spare carb that I have is the correct one for my car, but I think I will get it rebuilt before I put it on my coupe. Bill

I had original 37 W-1 for my 37. It never would run as good as one from a 40.
