Hi everyone,
History .
I am refurbishing the rear drive train and brakes on my 28 tourer.
I will be installing new crown wheel and pinion, new propellor shaft (tail shaft), axles, bearings etc.
My rear brakes on the 28 have a squealling noise issue and the external rear brake bands tend to wander and cut into the back of the timber spokes therefore I thought maybe using 29 rear brakes maybe a better option..
I know the propeller shaft on the 28 is about 40mm (1'1/2) longer so I will need to stay with the 28 propeller shaft.
Questions.
If I use a 29 diff housing / axle housing so I can utilise the 29 brake mechanism will this be compatable with the remainer of the 28 brake system . Has anyone done this conversion?

Either way a couple of jobs I need to do:
Axle housing is worn where the spring seat and cap is attached to the axle housing, what method of repair is recommended.

If I stay with the 28 brakes what can be done to stop the bands cutting into to timber spokes and the squealing.
I know some of these questions may be better in the 28 forum but figure most people read all forums like me.

Thanks for your help
Cheers Peter.
