I am learning some of the good old 6 cyl. tales.Up here once the V8's hit the streets no one did any more with the 6. My casting numbers are from '53,'59, &63 parts books. The casting number is not always gospel unfortunatly. They did change as things were up dated and things could have the same casting number but different applications.Modifications could made to the castings such holes drilled and taped etc.and still carry the same casting number.I can see why using a 235 head on a 261 would raise the compression ratio because the larger cyl. capaicity with the small comustion chamber would be a natural. One thing I would like to correct however is that a 50-52 PG head will not fit on any 53 and up block because they had fewer head bolts on the earlier heads.(I can correct you because I'm your elder, son) We sure can make long discussions out of simple Questions............As to the value of the '55 block.First it would depend on condition. Can you hear it run??If it ends up needing a rebuild would you want to spend another $1000 on it??How bad do you need it??? If it an unknown item I would't go over $100 or so.

Ok I stand corrected, I did have the engine on the 52 exchanged for a 53 or 54 engine when the car was converted from PG to standard, the original babbit rod 52 235 was in pretty bad shape needed an overhaul and keeping it meant buying a new set of rods and pistons, and and that was the head that ended up on the 261, after a trip to the machine shop for new valves and springs, a friend of mine was a truck mechanic at the local Chevrolet dealership he told me I would need new valves and springs and he gathered the materials needed to install the 261, I mainley washed parts and scrapped old gaskets and watched and did as I was told. I wish I had of kept a journal, but I had other things on my mind at 21 (how to make enough money in the summer to begin one more year of college) This is that 52, I still have dreams of this my favorite of them all!
