Hi,

My friend purchased this Chevrolet Belair Hard Top and we are wondering if this really is 1955 model? And if not 1955 what year model might this be or is it some custom made version.

The VIN for the car is VC55S223149

It is a 1955 model that some one modified and replaced the body with a 1956 4 door hard top body. I have seen this done before. It requires changing the shape of the lower front fender to match the contour of the 1956 rocker panel.
If it does not have a 1956 4 door hard top frame the body center pillar will be very weak as the 1956 4 door hard top b
frames had a special bracing in that area to rienforce the cut-off door hinge pillar.
Also the rear wheel opening was changed to the more square 1955 style rather than the tear drop 1956 type.

Thanks for the answer Chev,

The peculiar thing in the car is the body plate:

STYLE No 55-1039D
BODY No AG 4984
TRIM No 583
PAINT No 715D

The style number hints the body to be 55?
All other codes are indeed 56 model codes.

My best guess would be the body plate is a "reproduction"

I added link to body plate image.
From the ribbons one could suspect the plate has been removed sometime.
