I have a 47 Fleetmaster that the shifter is really stiff. I unhook the linkage and it moves fine. Can anyone tell me what this is that the linkage runs to? Well I cant figure out how to upload a picture from my desk top??

I have it on a rack and I pulled the vacuum hose off and put a vacuum pump on the cylinder. It doesn't move wont hold any vacuum. Are these cylinders available?

I have an extra vacuumn cylinder, it might be the weekend before I can get it out and test it. Have you tried to lube it and manually work the piston in and out.

![[Linked Image from pic100.picturetrail.com]](http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL401/9967837/24663370/413117276.jpg) Since you have it off this is easy. I think it has been said to use automatic trans. fluid. Someone will correct me if wrong. Give it a few hours to soak in. You can get the rubber boot from Cheves of the 40's, Filling Station, or Steel Rubber. Caution, if not too late. What ever you do, don't change the adjustment screw on the end at the valve link.

I believe I have a delete kit that came off of a 41 convertible. I'm guessing that it would fit a 47. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks Russell,
a torn boot wouldn't stop the cylinder from working.

Well I have it off. I put some vacuum pump oil in it. worked it back and forth a few times now letting it sit. But no matter what position I leave the shaft in with a vacuum pump I cant draw any pressure.

Either FS or COTF has them, I think. Also try Steele GM rubber parts out of Denver, NC. Yes, North Carolina not Colorado. Actually you don't need either the clam shells or the boot. There's not much dirt on the roads nowadays. Now if you had a Fleetline it would be a difference piece of advice. You must have all that stuff. You see, 47/48ers are the Machiavellian princes of the club. They're accomplished whiners with impunity. If you don't believe me just glance about six inches up on your screen. See that? Now tell me that you're not impressed enough and, accordingly, not going to kneel the next time a Fleetline prince approaches you. Well, I sure am! I hope I remember to bring my shoeshine box. mercy! Good luck with the vacuum shifter. You seem to have the only thread going here in the forum which is again bogged down with nothing to do. Best, Charlie

Charlie, I wouldn't do this for just anybody, but since it's you. Are you talking about the lubrication to the inside of the vacuum cylinder? If so, I'm lost Yep, the following is from that post. . You can get the rubber boot from Cheves of the 40's, Filling Station, or Steel Rubber. Re-read that entire post. I really try to answer all the questions ask when I take the time to reply, if I feel confident I am correct in my response. Now that your answer was the same as mine I feel much better.
