Hi The very early Landcruser used the "Chev" motor and I believe the first Crowns used loosely Chev 4 , I heard a few years ago that the First Crowns gearbox bolts straight up to a Chev 4 motor. Don't know anything about engine mounts.

Tony I have also heard that story with extra. What I have been told is the first Land Cruiser "F" engine is basically a Chev 235 full pressure oiling with some mods to the lubrication system. In the same story the gearbox and rear differential were also Chev or based on Chev design. I have never tried to verify this apart from a few quick glances. The "2F" could well be a 2nd generation of upgrade which is common amongst Toyota product. I had not heard anything about the 4 cyl Crown and Chev link though my father in law had 1 for a couple of years Tony
1938 1/2 ton Hope to drive it before I retire

I have seen it stated on the Barrett Jackson show coverage that Toyota was licensed to use the design of the engine in a slightly modified form in that vehicle. Videos shots showed something that bore a resemblance. Now I know some will say that their material needs fact checking from time to time, but I did see that on the show.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

In the 70's we had a Land Cruiser come in that had the 235 with minor change and Toyota carb. Also Land Rovers used the Buick 215 aluminum v8 for many years with upgrades and more cubic inches.

The following is from the May 1977 issue of Special-Intrest Autos.Toyotas first engine was called Type A. It copied the American Chevrolet 3 main bearing 6 of the 1929-1936 period almost bolt for bolt. Most parts indeed interchanged between the Japanese stove bolt and its Detroit inspiration. The A series engine however developed only 62 HP VS the real Chev's 79. Bore and stroke as well as cubic inch was identicle. According to a Japanese offical "in Oct 1933 we bought a 1933 Chevrolet sedan and some spare parts for research purposes. In Dec. we started to design our type engine based on the Chevrolet engine,In April 1934 the engine was dropped into a Chevrolet chassis and road tested. The proto type A sedan finished in 1935 and partly due to a shortage of time only the block, head, and several housings were built. The transmission gears and most of the chassis parts were sorced directly from Chevrolet." They switched from the 3 main bearing type A engine to the 4 main bearing type B engine in 1937 same as Chevrolet. The type B engine remained in production until 1953.
The larger Chevrolet 6 Cyl. ngine was used largely in Toyota trucks. They did design a 4 Cyl. version for small cars by cutting off two cylinders of the Type A engine.
In the early 1980's I was selling tools at a large Toyota dealer ship and a mechanic had a 6 cylinder engine disassembled. It was easy to see was was a modified version os a Chevrolet 235 engine and it was equipped with fuel injection.
